Scope of application:
321 321H stainless steel is a titanium stabilized version of 304 for specific applications in the sensitized temperature range. Its resistance to sensitization, coupled with its higher strength at elevated temperatures, makes it suitable for applications where 304 would be sensitized or where 304L would not have sufficient thermal strength. Weld rotting intergranular corrosion does not occur when exposed to mildly corrosive environments. However, Solder 321 should never be used in a highly oxidizing environment as it is susceptible to "knife line" attack. However, in environments with operating temperatures above 500°C, 321 is a better choice and thus has its own advantages. Alloy 321 stainless steel pipe is also beneficial for high temperature use due to its good mechanical properties. Alloy 321 stainless steel has higher creep and stress rupture properties than Alloy 304, especially Alloy 304L can also be considered for sensitive and intergranular corrosion problems.
